The Kirstenbosch gardens lies on the site of a former farm just outside of Cape Town near Table Mountain.
When it was established in 1913, the land had already been neglected for almost a decade so there was a lot of work involved in getting it into shape.
Since then, it's been transformed in a botanical garden with landscaped lawns and sculpted flowerbeds that's wheelchair accessible.
If you don't mind the walk, you can also find your way to the lesser visited parts of the park and take a hike up Table Mountain to see the natural areas of Kirstenbosch.
Entry to the park costs 55 Rand (£2.43)
