The enormous Summer Palace has had a long and complicated history having housed emperors and key figures in China's communist party in its time.
Aside from the hills and lakes, people also visit the palace to see the traditional architecture that's found all over the garden.
For example, the Long Corridor, at over 2,000ft in length, is the longest of its kind inside a Chinese garden and features more than 8,000 hand-painted panels. Visitors can walk along it to view the garden or study the intricate art on the panels.
Entry to the palace costs 30 Yuan (£3) in peak season.
