A villager from Beijing recently broke a Guinness World Record by shattering 37 glass beer bottles with his bare hands in 30 seconds. His total of 37 was 4 more than the previous record, Beijing Evening News reported on Sunday.
The record holder, Zhao Haihao, is in his 40s. He runs a butcher shop in Fangshan district. He has now received an official certificate from Guinness World Records, but the road to that certificate was not easy.
Certain kind-hearted people helped him a lot. Since he can't speak English, a local English teacher helped him translate the necessary documents. His neighbor, who owns a grocery store, provided him with beer bottles for practice.
Since Zhao couldn't afford the paid service of inviting a Guinness World Records adjudicator, he sent his application as a video.
The video was filmed at the end of November. In the video, a row of glass beer bottles full of water are in front of Zhao; he holds each bottle by its neck and hits their tops to shatter them one by one. In all, he shattered 37 bottles in 30 seconds.
Though he has earned the honor, he doesn't want to become arrogant. "I will keep on living my ordinary life," Zhao said, adding that he might strive for more records in the future.
