A cow gave birth to a two-headed calf in Linshui county of Sichuan province in southwest China on Sunday.
"A calf with two heads, if I hadn’t seen it myself, I would never have believed it,” 81-year-old local resident Wen Fangqing said.
On Feb. 12, Gan Yuanhua, a cattle owner, heard noises from the shed. Based on his experiences, Gan figured the cow was about to give birth. However, when the calf was finally born the next day, Gan found out that it had two heads.
The calf died as soon as it was born, but its mother was fine, said Gan.
Gan added that his cow had given birth to 3 healthy calves before, and there was nothing unusual about the cow this time.
Xu Kaiwen, a local veterinarian with more than 30 years of experience, believed it may be caused by genetic mutations, but the exact reason has not yet been identified.
