Castle was born in a noble family in Berlin in 1905. He became fascinated about Chinese culture when he was young. He was especially obsessed with Swedish explorer Sven Hedin’S adventure in Tibet and the Pamir Plateau. Leaving for the Far East was his biggest dream when he was a boy.
