China's first megawatt wind turbine successfully rolled off the production line on July 31 and was shipped to abroad the next day. This is the first order of China's megawatt wind turbine from the EU market.
After defeating three European competitors in the bidding in 2014, CSR Zhuzhou Electric Motor Company won Germany-based Areva Wind’s order for a 5mw wind turbine.
According to Li Jinze, the technical director of CSR Zhuzhou Electric Motor Company, the 5mw permanent magnet synchronous turbine made for Areva will be the main offshore wind turbine in the market in the future.
As the offshore wind generator, 5mw turbine has some special requirements compared with the ordinary turbines. The research and development was particularly difficult. It has applied the advanced technologies such as sealed junction box resistant to salt spray, insulation system to sea salt spray environment, medium voltage and permanent magnet, which have successfully resolved the key issue on anticorrosion insulation for offshore wind project.
The export of China-made megawatt wind turbine to the EU market marks an important step in the globalization of Chinese manufacturing industry.
