Facts & Figures: China's Top Ten Trade Partners

Following are the latest figures about China's trade with its top ten partners from January to August, 2001, provided by the General Administration of Customs:

-- Japan: total, 57.005 billion U.S. dollars, up 9.3 percent year-on-year; Exports to Japan, 28.707 billion U.S. dollars, up 10.8 percent; Imports, 28.298 billion U.S. dollars, up 7.8 percent.

-- The United States: total, 52.531 billion U.S. dollars, up 10.1 percent; Exports, 35.062 billion U.S. dollars, up 4.9 percent; Imports, 17.469 billion U.S. dollars, up 22.1 percent.

-- The European Union: total, 50.160 billion U.S dollars, up 13.3 percent; Exports, 26.744 billion U.S. dollars, up 7.4 percent; Imports, 23.416 billion U.S. dollars, up 20.9 percent.

-- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region: total, 35.562 billion U.S. dollars, up 2.5 percent; Exports, 29.400 billion U.S. dollars up 2.2 percent; Imports, 6.162 billion U.S. dollars, up 3.9 percent.

-- ASEAN countries: total, 26.947 billion U.S. dollars, up 8.8 percent; Exports, 11.774 billion U.S. dollars, up 7.7 percent; Imports, 15.173 billion U.S. dollars, up 9.6 percent.

-- The Republic of Korea: total, 23.558 billion U.S. dollars, up 6.5 percent; Exports, 7.974 billion U.S. dollars, up 9.9 percent; Imports, 15.584 billion U.S. dollars, up 4.9 percent.

-- Taiwan Province: total, 20.481 billion U.S. dollars, up 5.2 percent; Exports, 3.195 billion U.S. dollars, down 2.5 percent; Imports, 17.286 billion U.S. dollars, up 6.8 percent.

-- Russia: total, 6.681 billion U.S. dollars, up 33.5 percent; exports, 1.491 billion U.S. dollars, up 18.1 percent; Imports, 5.189 billion U.S. dollars, up 38.7 percent.

-- Australia: total, 5.618 billion U.S. dollars, up 2.4 percent; Exports, 2.240 billion U.S. dollars, up 2.2 percent; Imports, 3.377 billion U.S. dollars, up 2.5 percent.

-- Canada: total, 4.858 billion U.S. dollars, up 4.0 percent; Exports, 2.234 billion U.S. dollars, up 6.4 percent; Imports, 2.624 billion U.S. dollars, up 2.1 percent.
