Facts & Figures: China's Top Ten Trade Partners

The following are figures about China's trade with its top ten partners from January to March, 2001, provided by the General Administration of Customs:

-- Japan: total, 20.559 billion U.S. dollars, up 18 percent on an annual basis; exports to Japan, 10.565 billion U.S. dollars, up 22.8 percent; imports, 9.994 billion U.S. dollars, up 13.2 percent.

-- The United States: total, 17.262 billion U.S. dollars, up 14. 5 percent; exports, 11.564 billion U.S. dollars, up 11 percent; imports, 5.698 billion U.S. dollars, up 22.3 percent.

-- The European Union: total, 17.902 billion U.S dollars, up 20. 7 percent; exports, 9.821 billion U.S. dollars, up 16.8 percent; imports, 8.081 billion U.S. dollars, up 25.7 percent.

-- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region: total, 11.884 billion U.S. dollars, up 5.9 percent; exports, 9.868 billion U.S. dollars, up 4.9 percent; imports, 2.016 billion U.S. dollars up 10. 8 percent.

-- ASEAN countries: total, 9.666 billion U.S. dollars, up 21.8 percent; exports, 4.121 billion U.S. dollars, up 20.8 percent; imports, 5.545 billion U.S. dollars, up 22.7 percent.



-- The Republic of Korea: total, 8.102 billion U.S. dollars, up 10.4 percent; exports, 2.673 billion U.S. dollars, up 11 percent; imports, 5.429 billion U.S. dollars, up 10.1 percent.

-- Taiwan Province: total, 6.999 billion U.S. dollars, up 14.1 percent; exports, 1.072 billion U.S. dollars, up 2.7 percent; imports, 5.927 billion U.S. dollars, up 16.5 percent.

-- Australia: total, 1.956 billion U.S. dollars, down 3.7 percent; exports, 808.780 million U.S. dollars, up 10.6 percent; imports, 1.147 billion U.S. dollars, down 11.7 percent.

-- Russia: total, 2.393 billion U.S. dollars, up 65.7 percent; exports, 539.887 million U.S. dollars, up 30.3 percent; imports, 1. 854 billion U.S. dollars, up 80 percent.

-- Canada: total, 1.512 billion U.S. dollars, down 5.1 percent; exports, 741.786 million U.S. dollars, up 7.8 percent; imports, 769.800 million U.S. dollars, down 14.9 percent.
