Gallery Show of Jinsha, Lancang & Nujiang Rivers Opened in Beijing

Co-organized by the Ministry of Construction and China National Committee of the UNESCO, March 14 saw a gallery show featuring the scenic areas of the three rivers running parallel over the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau opened at Beijing Cultural Palace of Nationalities.

The world-renowned three rivers, known as Jinsha, Lancang and Nujiang Rivers, which, taking sources from the plateau, run parallel for some 400 kilometers in the southern Hengduan Mountains in the northwest of Yunnan Province. This area is rich in wonders wrought by nature, such as: snowcapped mountains and glaciers, towering ranges and deep ravines, forests and grasslands and lakes and various species of flora and fauna as well as colorful folklore and customs of the ethnic peoples. The area boasts of the biggest state nature reserves, a key and most abundant zone for the protection of multifarious living species, which is considered to be of great significance to the preservation of natural forests in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River.

Approved by the State Council in 1988, a national key scenic and landscape reserve was established in the area. Now, supported by the Ministry of Construction and the National committee efforts are being made in Yunnan to have the site listed in the list of the World Nature Heritage.
