Bus Accident Claims 21 Lives in Central China

An early morning bus accident Tuesday in Qinyang City, central China's Henan Province, has left 21 passengers dead and another 41 injured, police said today.

A bus carrying 62 passengers plunged down a 15-meter-high cliff at around 4 a.m., according to Qinyang police. Nineteen people were found dead at the scene, two died on the way to local hospitals and the 41 injured were transported to major hospitals in Qinyang for emergency treatment.

The bus was traveling from Shenqiu of Henan to Jincheng in neighboring Shanxi Province, police said. Most of the passengers are from Shenqiu, and some came from the eastern China province of Anhui.

Qinyang police are investigating the accident.
