SW China's Autonomous County Marks 10th Anniversary
An autonomous county in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region celebrated its tenth anniversary this week.
During the past ten years, the Gongcheng Yao Ethnic Group Autonomous County, has successfully dealt with poverty, decreasing the number of poverty-stricken people from nearly 50,000 to 7,000, a local official source said.
The county is rich in forest resources, which enable it to make profits through planting fruit trees and animal breeding. The county has 71.6 percent of forest coverage.
Mainly inhabited in China's Guangxi, Hunan, Yunnan, Guangdong, Jiangxi and Hainan, the Yao ethnic group has a total population of more than two million.
