Chinese Army to Adopt Law on Medical Practitioners
China's Central Military Commission (CMC) has published "Methods on the Adoption of the Law on Medical Practitioners" for the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).
The CMC decree to this effect was signed by Premier Zhu Rongji and CMC Chairman Jiang Zemin on September 14.
The document, comprising 23 articles, defines the management, qualification, registration, duties and disciplines of medical practitioners in the army.
Unlike other medical practitioners, those serving in the army are not allowed to provide medical services for their personal profits, must participate in wartime rescues and help civilians in natural disasters.
The law was adopted by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on June 26, 1998 and came into force on May 1, 1999.
