President Jiang Meets HK Business Delegation

President Jiang Meets HK Business Delegation
President Jiang Zemin met a business delegation from Hong Kong in Beijing Friday afternoon at the Great Hall of the People.

Jiang praised Hong Kong's business community for its contribution to Hong Kong's prosperity since its return to the motherland in 1997.

It is almost three years since Hong Kong's return, Jiang said, citing the successful implementation of the "one country, two systems" policy and the satisfactory administration of the SAR government led by Tung Chee-hwa during this period.

Jiang also said that he hoped Hong Kong's business community would continue to uphold the basic law, which is crucial to Hong Kong's long-term stability and prosperity, as well as to its investment environment.

Over the past 20 years, Hong Kong's business community has greatly supported the development of the inland areas, he said, adding that the current situation, including China's coming entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the country's plan to boost its western region's economy will provide even bigger business opportunities.

The delegation, headed by Henry Ying Tung Fok, includes many other celebrities such as Sir Run Run Shaw and Li Ka-shing.
