Commencement of Second Term of Office of LegCo in HK
The Chief Executive in Council has specified October 1, 2000, as the beginning date for the second term of office of the Legislative Council (LegCo) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
A notice to that effect was published in the gazette on Friday.
A HKSAR government spokesman said Friday that in accordance with section 4 of the Legislative Council Ordinance, the term of office of the second LegCo should start within 30 days after declaration of the results of the LegCo elections held on September 10, 2000.
It was sensible, in terms of administrative arrangements, for the term of office to commence on the first day of a calendar month. In the light of these, October 1, 2000 has been chosen.
