FORUM: Do you think the US investigation into China’s IP practices will spark a trade war?

(People's Daily Online)    15:28, August 24, 2017

The Trump Administration has launched a formal investigation into China’s intellectual property practices to determine whether Chinese laws, policies, and practices harm American intellectual property rights, innovation, or technological development. The Section 301 investigation is a major source of tension between the world's two largest economies, and it could trigger a trade war.

The Chinese government has stressed that there is no winner in a trade war, and that China will not sit idle but take necessary measures to safeguard China’s legitimate rights if the U.S. takes actions that impair trade relations, disregards the facts, and disrespects multilateral trade rules (China's Ministry of Commerce expressed "strong dissatisfaction" with US trade probe).

Chinese experts have also noted an unfortunate truth: the U.S. stands to lose the most should there be a trade war (China has three trump cards to counter Trump administration's trade probe: experts)

What's your point of view? Can a trade war between the two countries be avoided? If not, does America need China more than China needs America?
