New Zealand agribusiness delegation heads to China

14:07, June 28, 2013

WELLINGTON, June 28 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy is leading a delegation of agribusiness representatives to China in a bid to drum up trade.

Guy, who left Friday, said the trip was formally hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and the delegation would visit Beijing, Shanghai, Anhui Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

"This is a valuable opportunity to match New Zealand agribusiness companies with business opportunities. Of particular interest is pasture and animal husbandry expertise, general agricultural services, and the construction of dairy farms," Guy said in a statement Friday.

A New Zealand business event would be held in Beijing where members of the delegation would present to Chinese businesses and officials a range of commercial interests.

"The visit to Beijing also provides the opportunity to follow up on Chinese Minister of Agriculture Han Changfu's visit to New Zealand in April, and the Strategic Plan on Promoting Agricultural Cooperation signed by ministers during that visit," said Guy.

"New Zealand and China have a very strong trading relationship, particularly in meat and dairy products, and this visit will build on that. In April this year China overtook Australia to officially become our largest export market."

Guy would return to New Zealand on July 7.
