HANGZHOU, June 27 (Xinhua) -- An explosion occurred at a chemical plant in east China's Zhejiang Province on Thursday, local firefighters said.
Authorities received a report about a liquid chlorine tank explosion at 5 p.m. from the plant, which is located in the city of Dongyang.
Five fire trucks and 30 firefighters have been sent to the scene of the explosion. A rescue headquarters has been set up.
The explosion is believed to have caused a liquid chlorine leak, which may harm nearby residents and the environment, according to the headquarters.
Firefighters have evacuated nearby residents. No casualties have been reported thus far.
An investigation into the cause of the incident is under way.
