BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- China's meteorological authority on Tuesday maintained a blue alert for heavy rain and storms that are pummeling the country's southern regions.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) said some parts in southwest and south China, and regions in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River will see heavy downpours over the next three days.

Thunderstorms and strong gales are likely to hit those areas, the NMC added.

Meanwhile, the eastern parts of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, some areas in north and northeast China will have showers from Tuesday to Thursday, according to the NMC.

China has a four-color-coded warning system for rainstorms, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
