Police have filed a criminal case against a college student who held a doctor hostage in order to flee from a dispute he had with the family of an elderly woman he injured when riding a bike.

The suspect, 18, a university freshman, knocked over an 82-year-old woman and injured her wrist in Wuhan, Hubei province, on Saturday, according to www.cnhubei.com.

Chen helped the woman to hospital afterward but her family members wanted him to pay 1,000 yuan ($162) as deposit money for the woman's medical treatment.

Unable to afford the payment, Chen argued with them, it turned violent and he tried to stab one of the woman's family members with a knife. He fled into an office and held a female doctor hostage before police intervened and rescued the hostage.

The incident occurred after Chen, an 18-year-old college freshman, knocked down an elderly woman with his bike on Saturday afternoon. The woman's family and Chen failed to come to agreement on medical fees. Police arrested Chen during a negotiation. Chen confessed to his crime later.
