China holds reception for International Women's Day

BEIJING, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese and foreign female representatives attended an All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) reception at the Great Hall of People on Wednesday to celebrate the upcoming International Women's Day.

Chen Zhili, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the top legislature, and president of the ACWF, extended greetings to women across the world at the reception. She added that China has made great achievements in promoting gender equality and children's welfare.

Chen urged all women in the country to make greater contributions to China's great rejuvenation, and hoped to cooperate with females and women's associations in other countries to promote global gender equality and peace.

More than 1,200 people attended the reception, including female ministers, generals, scientists, ambassadors, diplomats and other women representatives.

International Women's Day is on March 8.
