Chen Yong attends ASEAN Regional Forum Security Policy Conference

BEIJING, May 24, (ChinaMil) -- The ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Regional Forum Security Policy Conference was held on May 23, 2013 in Bandar Seri Begawan, capital of Negara Brunei Darussalam. 23 member countries of the forum dispatched their representatives to the conference. Chen Yong, assistant to chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), led a delegation to attend the conference.

In his speech, Chen Yong pointed out that facing complex international and regional security threats, various countries should adhere to the concept of comprehensive security, common security and cooperative security, strengthen security cooperation within the framework of the ASEAN Regional Forum, take enhancing trust and dispelling misgivings as an important premise for strengthening cooperation, take pragmatic cooperation as an important way to deepen multilateral security cooperation, take consultation and dialogue as the fundamental way to settle differences, and take achieving mutual benefit and win-win results as the common goal, so as to make new contributions to promoting peaceful development of the region and the world at large.

Chen Yong also expounded the principled stand of the Chinese side on such issues as the Korean Peninsula, the South China Sea and network security.

Before the conference, Chen Yong also chaired the breakfast meeting for Chinese and ASEAN representatives to the conference.

Li Ji, deputy director-general of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the People's Republic of China, participated in the above activities.
