The five-day-long Second Military World Winter Games was unveiled on March 25, 2013 in Annecy, a city in southeast of France. A total of 1,000 athletes and officials from 40 countries and regions will participate in the games.
The delegation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) consists of 55 members and among them, 40 are athletes who will participate in the competition events including cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, indoor rock climbing, short track speed skating, biathlon and snowfield patrol racing. The PLA delegation won three gold and seven silver medals and ranked the third in the medal table just after Italy and France in the First Military World Winter Games.
The Military World Winter Games is hosted by the International Military Sports Council (CISM). The First Military World Winter Games was held in Aosta of Italy in March 2010. The Second Military World Winter Games sets up a total of 6 major competition events, namely alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, ski touring, short track speed skating, directional skiing and indoor rock climbing, and will produce 66 gold medals.
