Communist veteran Yang Baibing dies at 93

BEIJING, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Yang Baibing, former director of the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, has died at the age of 93.

Yang passed away due to an illness in Beijing Tuesday afternoon, says a statement issued by the General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Yang was a member of the Secretariat of the 13th CPC Central Committee and a member of the Political Bureau of the 14th CPC Central Committee.

He was also former secretary-general of the Central Military Commission.

The statement says Yang was an outstanding member of the CPC, a seasoned loyal Communist fighter, a proletarian revolutionist, and an excellent leader of the political work in the military.
