The training of 2013 of an army aviation brigade under the Lanzhou Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) was recently unveiled at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The training focused on the subjects including aerial reconnaissance, aerial patrolling and field taking-off/landing under frigid conditions, and specially added the subject of search and rescue in snow-covered area, in view of the frequent snow disasters in Xinjiang.

It is learned that the flight under frigid conditions is a major difficulty for the aviation troop units, as the low temperature can lead to various difficult situations such as the engine-startup difficulty, airframe icing and even engine shutdown in the air. In addition, due to the light reflected from snow on ground, the pilot's eyes are easy to fatigue, causing visual illusion.
