Qi Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), and Shashi Kant Sharma, the visiting Indian defense secretary, held the 5th China-India defense and security consultation on the afternoon of January 14, 2013 in Beijing.
Qi Jianguo expressed that China-India relations are one of China's most important foreign relations. China sincerely hopes to establish a strategic partnership featuring equality and mutual trust, inclusiveness and mutual learning, and mutually beneficial cooperation with India.
The development of the relations between the Chinese and Indian militaries is an important symbol of in-depth cooperation between the two countries. It is hoped that the two sides will continue to enhance security mutual trust, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, maintain peace and tranquility of the border areas of the two countries, promote peace and stability of South Asia, and establish new-type military relations featuring long-term stability and friendly cooperation.
In response, Sharma expressed that high-ranking officials of the two countries have made frequent contacts with each other and the bilateral cooperation in various fields have been making steady progress over the years, laying a solid foundation for the development of the bilateral relations. The Indian side is willing to constantly strengthen dialogues and exchanges, enhance mutual trust and promote bilateral cooperation between the two militaries.
