Last weekend, Disney's 3D movie "Oz the Great and Powerful" amassed over eighty million US dollars in North American ticket sales alone.

The big-budget franchise marked the highest opening since December, when "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" opened to 84 million dollars in ticket sales. It also represents the largest March debut. The movie is a prequel to the 1939 Hollywood classic "The Wizard of Oz." It stars James Franco as a small-time magician, who is whisked away by hot-air balloon to a magical land and mistaken for a wizard.

Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz play three witches that Franco encounters on his amazing journey. The movie will be released in China on March 29th.
