PANAMA CITY, July 12 (Xinhua) -- The Panamanian press Friday highlighted the 1-0 victory over Martinique at the Concacaf ( Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) Gold Cup held in the United States, though the second victory of the national team lacked sparkle.
Panama had a historic result after defeating 2-1 Mexico in the first match, but did not had "a brilliant performance" when facing Martinique, according to local daily La Prensa.
During Thursday's match, played at Century Link Field stadium in Seattle, Panama showed poor offensive strategy, especially during the first half. The difference was made by Alberto " Negrito" Quintero's work and the penalty scored by Gabriel Torres, the press said.
According to local daily La Estrella, the victory over Martinique was not easy, since the Caribbean team was not weak.
On the other hand, daily El Panama America, said the match against Martinique was an accomplished mission and also said Quinter was the best player of the Panamanian team
