China's clean-energy-generated power usage on rise

BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua)-- Consumption of clean-energy-generated electricity has increased in China as it looks to become less reliant on fossil fuels, statistics from the State Electricity Regulatory Commission showed.

China consumed 810.2 billion kilowatt-hours (kwh) of electricity generated by clean energy sources in the first ten months of 2012. This accounted for 20.4 percent of the country's total on-grid power during the period, the commission said.

The share represents an increase of 3.6 percentage points from the ratio logged at the same time last year.

In October, electricity generated from clean energy sources surged 48.4 percent year-on-year to 92.7 billion kwh.

As of the end of last month, China's hydropower generation capacity added 10.35 million kwh. Wind generation capacity added 7.17 million kwh, according to the commission.

To meet the target of cutting energy use per unit of gross domestic product by 16 percent by 2015 from 2011 levels, China has taken a number of measures. These include increasing investment in clean energy, to boost the share of non-fossil fuels in its power structure.
