In recent years, the proportion of clean energy has been increasing in China. By the end of 2011, the proportion of hydropower, nuclear power, wind power, solar energy and other clean energy had reached 27.5 percent, representing a year-on-year increase of 0.9 percent.

In 2011, proportion of thermal power investment fell to 28.4 percent of power investment while that of clean energy saw obvious increase.

China Electricity Council pointed out that China should pay attention to the impact of the large-scale development of new energy on the balance of power supply and demand. Although new energy power generation has made great contributions to restructuring of electric power and energy saving and emission reduction, it affects balance of power supply and demand significantly at the same time.

As new energy such as wind power and solar energy feature low energy density and fewer hours of utilization of power generation, they cannot replace conventional power sources. Therefore, while actively developing new energy power generation, China should seriously research and actively implement power grid planning and construction that guarantees the reliable power supply.
