Toyota recalls 2.77 million vehicles over steering, pump defects

TOKYO, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Toyota Motor Corp. on Wednesday said it will recall 2.77 million vehicles worldwide due to steering wheel and water pump defects, marking the second time in as many months the automaker has issued a recall.

Of the 2.77 million vehicles, spanning both gasoline and hybrid models, 1.5 million of the recalls are in Japan and follow 7.43 million vehicles being recalled by the automaker last month over potential problems that could lead to electric window switches melting or catching fire.

The latest recall is the largest-ever in Japan and Asia largest automaker said that 13 models could be affected in cars here produced between August 2000 and December 2011.
