BOGOTA, July 4 (Xinhua)-- Colombian rebel group National Liberation Army (ELN) on Thursday blew up an oil pipeline in the country's northwestern region.
Local authorities said that the ELN, using an explosive charge, blasted the "Cano Limon-Covenas" oil pipeline in the Norte de Santander department.
The oil spill caused by the attack has created an environmental emergency, said officials.
In the region, farmers have been on strike for 25 days, making hard for the oil company workers to reach the blast location due to road barricades.
According to the authorities, this is the 40th reported attack by the ELN in Norte de Santander department alone.
The ELN is seeking peace talks with the government to end armed conflicts in the country.
