TEHRAN, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Iran's President-elect Hassan Rouhani said that he will attach great importance to relations with Russia during the upcoming four-year term in office, Tehran Times daily reported on Wednesday.

In response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's congratulations on his election win, Rouhani expressed hope that the "deep-rooted relations" between the two countries would be further bolstered in various areas, according to the report.

Iran's new administration will make efforts to expand ties with all countries based on mutual understanding, trust, and respect, he was quoted as saying.

Moderate Rouhani won the presidential election on June 14 by garnering 50.71 percent of the votes.
