BEIRUT, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Visiting U.S. Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT) officer Rear Admiral Kerry M. Metz underscored Thursday SOCCENT's support for Lebanon's initiatives to implement its obligations under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
According to a statement by the U.S. embassy, Admiral Metz discussed with Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Jean Kahwagi and other senior military officials continued military cooperation between the two countries, including SOCCENT's support in training and equipping the Lebanese Armed Forces Special Operations Forces (LSOF).
Metz renewed the commitment of the United States to a stable, sovereign and independent Lebanon.
The UNSCR 1701 halted all military operations between the Israeli Army and Hezbollah, following a ravaging war that lasted 33 days.
