BEIRUT, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Renewed clashes in the northern Lebanese port city of Tripoli left nine people injured on Monday during an exchange of sniper fire between two rival neighborhoods, a local security source said.
Explosions were heard on the Syria Street, the main thoroughfare street that divides the rival neighborhoods of Sunni Bab el Tebbaneh and Alawite Jabal Mohsen, the source said, adding the Lebanese army rushed to the scene and responded to the source of fire.
Since clashes erupted eight days ago between the two neighborhoods, at least 29 people, including two soldiers, have been killed and 178 others have been injured.
