SANTIAGO, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Chile and Peru Tuesday held their Social Integration Council's first ministerial meeting in Santiago to coordinate social action policies and to identify bilateral cooperation projects that will benefit the migrant citizens of both countries.

"This meeting is one step more in the very positive relations we have with Peru, which we aim to continue deepening," said Chilean Foreign Minister Alfredo Moreno who led the Chilean delegation to the council meeting.

He added that the meeting is also "a concrete example of our commitment to advance on the issues that unite us and benefit our peoples, especially the migrant population."

Chile s ministers of social development, of education, of justice, of labor and social security, of health as well as of housing and urbanization, took part in the council meeting while Peru's ministers of foreign affairs, of social development and inclusion, of interior, of justice, of health, of labor and employment, and of women and vulnerable populations, attended the meeting.

The Chile-Peru Social Integration Council was established on an agreement signed in 2006 in Lima. Chilean President Sebastian Pinera, during his visit to Peru in November 2010, agreed with then Peruvian President Alan Garcia to launch this mechanism.
