JERUSALEM, May 21 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli villager suspected of leading 11 parents and 25 children in a violent cult was captured by the police on Tuesday morning.
The arrest was made after a month-long investigation following a complaint by a 46 year-old member of the cult.
The cult's leader, a 56 year-old man whose name was not released, is a resident of the northern Israeli village of Majed al-Krum.
The police suspected the leader had ordered his followers to act violently toward their children as "proper" education.
He is also said to have locked two women and some children in toilets for days.
The police charged the man of controlling the lives of the group members physically and financially.
The Welfare Ministry said in a statement that the children in the cult would be taken care of by social workers and that they will seek solutions for them as well as the women in the group.
