PARIS, May 21 (Xinhua) -- France's top league club Saint-Etienne decided on Tuesday to extend the contract with coach Christophe Galtier to 2016 after leading the team to win the League Cup title after three decades.

"The leaders of the team would like to thank Christophe Galtier for the quality of his work and dedication to the club," the club said in a statement posted on its website.

Galtier has been voted the best coach of the country's first championship this season along with Carlo Ancelotti of Paris-Saint Germain, the holder of top league title.

Under Galtier who joined the club in 2008, Saint-Etienne finished fourth after scoring 62 points in the French league.
