UNITED NATIONS, April 8 (Xinhua) -- More than 450 people, including 229 civilians, were killed and more than 1,100 others injured in the terrorist attacks and armed violence in Iraq in March, deputy UN spokesman Eduardo del Buey told reporters here Monday.

The disclosure came as del Buey addressed a daily news briefing held here, quoting a source with the UN Mission in Iraq (UNAMI). According to the source, 227 members of the Iraqi security forces were killed and 300 more were injured in such attacks.

"The Mission remains concerned at the rise in violence in Iraq and the increasing toll on Iraqi civilians and its detrimental impact on civilian infrastructure," del Buey said. "Iraqis continue to suffer from attacks perpetrated by a number of terrorist groups, among them Al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Islamic State of Iraq."
