Syria rejects any role of Arab League in efforts to solve Syrian crisis

DAMASCUS, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Syria's Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that it rejected any role of the Arab League (AL) in any plan or effort that would lead to a political solution to the long- standing Syrian crisis due to its "negative and biased" stance.

The AL has become "a captive to the biased political stance of certain Gulf States, such as Qatar and Saudi, and thus it can not be a party conducive in reaching a real political solution to the crisis," the ministry said in a statement, the state-run SANA news agency reported.

The AL council has gone so far in violating its charters by offering a certain Syrian opposition party the membership in the league, the ministry said.

"In the same context, Syria stresses its adherence to basic principles in dealing with any international endeavor to solve the crisis," the ministry said, charging that since the start of the crisis, the AL has chosen to be a biased party in favor of regional and Arab parties that call for foreign military intervention in Syria and hinder any effort for a political solution based on a national dialogue.

The ministry's sharp riposte came after Arab foreign ministers offered the Syrian opposition coalition the Syria's seat in the League on condition that it first forms a representative executive council.
