HOUSTON, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Two public schools in the U.S. state of Oklahoma were placed on lockdown Monday after a high school student killed himself with a firearm, local media reported.

Police confirmed that Coweta High School and Coweta Intermediate High School, in a suburb of the Oklahoma city of Tulsa, were on lockdown after a nine-grader committed suicide in a bathroom in the Intermediate High School, according to CBS affiliate KOTV.

The 15-year-old was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after police received a report of shots fired, according to the report.

Police received the initial call at 8:35 a.m., reported the FOX affiliate,

The superintendent of the school first confirmed the report of the suicide, according to reports.

Police refused to give any other details about the student, but said the school handled the incident well.

Police were investigating the boy's suicide.
