It's one of China's first big exhibitions this year. Starting today, more than 100 art pieces from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in the US, will be on display at China's National Museum. The exhibition in Beijing centres on the theme of nature, and covers a time span of more than 3000 years.
The exhibition runs through the entire evolution of western artistic achievements. Featuring the theme of "nature", the pieces range from mediums such as painting, sculpture, photography and much more.
This richness is exemplified in Rembrandt's work "Flora" -- which is based on the painter's lost wife -- and in the starkly different portrayals of women from various cultures, by French painters Gauguin and Renoir.
All these works are collectively given a very Chinese name, based on Daoist philosophy.
Chen Lvsheng, Dep. Curator of National Museum of China, said, "The founder of Daoist philosphy emphasizes a harmony between the human being and nature, so we have summed up this exhibition with the name 'Earth, Sea and Sky: Nature in Western Art'."
This is the first time works from the Metropolitan Museum of Art have been showcased in China. The exhibition is set to last 3 months.
