BAKU, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijan will end its mission in Afghanistan after the combat mission of NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) officially finishes at the end of 2013, local media said on Thursday.
Member of the Azerbaijani parliament's security and defense committee Zahid Oruj told local news agency APA that along with the NATO and US troops, Azerbaijani servicemen are also scheduled to start coming home.
"As the regional and international situation on Afghanistan has changed, Azerbaijan will also withdraw its peacekeepers. The situation will be controlled by the local military and police forces of Afghanistan," he said.
The Azeri troops have been deployed since November, 2002 in Afghanistan, where they implemented peacekeeping operations.
The Obama administration is considering the possibility of removing all U.S. troops in Afghanistan after the NATO combat mission officially finishes at the end of 2013.
