Obama’s second presidential term will be challenging

(People's Daily Online)

The United States presidential election has ended. However, it remains a question whether Obama can pull the United States out of the after-crisis "quagmire" during his second term and prove he has led the country on the right road. It is not going to be an easy task.

Why has Obama been re-elected?

Although the total votes of Obama and Romney were close, Obama was leading in electoral votes. Four years of achievements have been the "hard power" that led to his win.

The U.S. economy has passed the financial crisis rather successfully through active intervention by the government and strengthened financial supervision.

On security issues, Obama made the United States withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan. The successful response to Hurricane Sandy earned him a lot of support, including from Republicans.

Handling internal affairs

The weak recovery of U.S. economy has been the most talked about topic during the presidential election. To revive the economy, especially to increase employment will be the policy priority for Obama during his second term, which will start from deficit reduction and tax increases.
