E.U. should learn from Switzerland and Germany (2)

There are many potential areas for further development in future economic and trade cooperation between China and Germany, such as high-end manufacturing, renewable energy, modern agriculture, and modern services. And there is urbanization. China's future economic development depends on the development of urbanization and urbanization in turn will lead to greater co-operation opportunities between China and Germany. During Li's visit to Germany, the two sides signed many documents in energy saving, investment, agriculture, education and other areas of cooperation, and renewed the good momentum of China and Germany development in recent years. Enhancing Sino-German economic and trade cooperation is also conducive to promoting China- E.U. mutual trust, and promote the overall development of China- E.U. relations.

But recently the E.U. economic and trade policies toward China is incompatible with the current trend of good cooperation with Switzerland and Germany. The European Commission threatened to levy anti-dumping and countervailing duties on Chinese PV products, and also threatened to launch antidumping and countervailing investigation on China's premium communications products. Such practice caused considerable controversy within the E.U., especially in Germany. The upstream and downstream PV companies the European Union and particularly in Germany will be subject to the maximum damage. Such subjective and unfair practices are not conducive to the internal unity and stability of the E.U. If the European Commission insists, China will inevitably take counter-measures, which is undoubtedly not good for the E.U. which relies on exports for economic growth revival. Of course, China- E.U. relations will suffer great harm, too.

Economic and trade cooperation between China and Germany, and China and Switzerland shows that Europe and China can enjoy completely mutual benefits. Trade protectionism cannot save the enterprises which have lost competitiveness, but will cause greater harm. If the E.U. has a better, more objective and more comprehensive understanding of China, China- E.U. relations will be smoother. Switzerland and Germany have been leading the way, China- E.U. cooperation is the trend, and we believe that the E.U. will eventually realize this.
