Uruguayan President Jose Mujica visited Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) on May 27, and gave a speech titled “Uruguay under the view of Latin American” to the students. President Mujica is paying a state visit to China from May 25 to 28.
Professor Han Zhen, president of BFSU made a brief introduction, saying that BFSU is now teaching 58 foreign languages, making it the university with the largest variety of language education in China. It is also called the “cradle of Chinese diplomats” because more than 1,400 graduates have become diplomats. Yan Banghua, Chinese Ambassador to Uruguay also graduated from BFSU.
During his speech, President Mujica first made an all-round introduction of Uruguay, including its history, politics, economy and culture etc., and shared his thoughts on issues such as globalization, environmental protection, sustainable development and education. Regarding the present globalization trend, he said the globalization has shortened distance between people, and more progress on the governance of country should be made, and unique cultural feature should be formed.
As for the issue of sustainable development, President Mujica pointed out that people should attach great importance to environmental protection while developing economy. People should show respect for life and make efforts for the sustainable development of human and environment, he added.
Moreover, Present Mujica shared his opinions on personal development, saying that people should try to contribute to society in addition to enjoying life.
At last, Present Mujica said that people should learn to create and work together to innovate the civilization.
