Li Keran (1907-1989), born Li Yongshun in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, was a renowned contemporary Chinese artist and calligrapher. Li excelled at depicting landscapes, human figures and cattle.
He was a shining star on the 2012 auction market. His work "Landscape in Red" gave him a new record at US$43.99 million during Poly Auction's 2012 spring sale, which was also the highest selling price on the Chinese arts market in 2012.
According to the Art Market Monitor of Artron, the average price per square feet of his work reached US$364,200, a 77.29 percent rise compared with 2011.
