Debate rages online: Bribes or donations? (3)

At the heart of the debate is the question of whether Lu's behavior was an act of charity or not.

According to the court's verdict, Lu was found guilty of taking bribes based on evidence that he and Gao were involved in an extramarital affair, which is supported by text messages and hotel records.

Furthermore, Lu asked Chen for the donation at a time when he had the authority to appropriate Chen's government funds. Even after Chen said he would like to donate a used school bus, Lu insisted that Chen give Gao the cash to buy a new school bus, a move not in line with usual donation procedures.

In the end, Chen met Gao at a bank and gave her 150,000 yuan (23,809 U.S. dollars) in cash, and afterwards, Chen received his long-due government funding.
