Guizhou Province Narcotics Control Committee employs a five-virtue approach, i.e. to ease the estrangement with love, to facilitate communication with care, to show feelings with carefulness, to serve people with enthusiasm and to call the return of human nature with patience. The committee works to integrate psychologists, anti-drug volunteers, full-time officials and relatives of the rehabilitated in the “Sunshine Enterprises” to serve them warm-heartedly, to prompt their self-control and self-management and hold firm their confidence and resolution in drug abstention.
“It was what Wang Jun (director of Narcotics Control Office of Yunyan District) said to me that caused me decided to come here. He said that every one there is just the same as you and every one is equal and is beloved by each other as family members do.” said Wang Hua. After his working for a short term at the plant, his wife also joined in this working group. Wang Hua has been promoted to be the shift leader thanks to his outstanding performance.
“Being lack of living guarantee may drive these people to act recklessly which may bring social risks. So helping them will also greatly benefit us as well and the society at large” said Yu Ping, an anti-drug official to this plant. He is an ex-soldier and used to be an armed policeman for drug enforcement in Yunnan for four years. He took and keeps this 700-Yuan-pay job because he used to know many too people who were ruined by drugs and he considers himself obliged to get them out of than abyss. He said one must be familiar with education science, psychology and medical knowledge for properly coaching and guiding the drug abusers who are oversensitive yet tender and may become manic at any time because of something you said.
As he mentioned, the “Sunshine Enterprises” is a media to treat the addicts through labor where the anti-drug officials have no enforcement power over these people, so what attracted him to stay is the sense of responsibility besides a warm heart. Regard them as a good fellow and let bygones be bygones, then they may open their heart to you and accept the treatment consistently.
Yu works not only to guide the rehabilitated to stay there in the plant, but also pays home visits to understand their dynamic conditions and educate both these people and their families.
Cui said the “Sunshine Project” is characterized by its open and humanized administration to these employees in “Sunshine Enterprises”; its closer connection between the “Sunshine Enterprises” and affected families, communities as well as compulsory detoxification centers; its atmosphere full of solidarity, mutual assistance, mutual trust and familiarity which have soundly enhanced people’s confidence in rehabilitation and enabled them to regain their dignity and truly reintegrate and reengage into the society.
