Why is the “Sunshine Project” so effective? How can the “Sunshine Project” solve the worldwide recognized problem in narcotics control - the high relapse rate fundamentally? In my point of view, the following several aspects should be probed.
First of all, it puts emphasis on key points of the issue to solve the principal contradiction.
After mandatory drug treatment and back into society, the government would provide job placement or employment with them in some enterprises. The rehabilitated drug users are more vulnerable to discrimination in employment, as they are self-contemptuous and psychologically vulnerable; therefore, it’s not rare to see them leave their job immediately after job placement or employment. Once they have nothing to do after job leaving, they would have to go back to their original drug abuse groups and inevitably start the old trick. Hence, job placement has become the most crucial aspects of the vicious circle.
The “Sunshine Project” takes “job placement” as key point and makes enterprises involve in the whole process of the work. With the assistance and subsidies given by the government, the enterprises are able to provide rehabilitated drug users with special employment opportunities, proper work arrangements, and easy environment without discrimination. The rehabilitated drug users are able to get wages and achieve self-fulfillment through hard work, and finally, get away from the drugs. It has been proved that the majority of patients start a new life after being given a proper work, and they have been forgiven and accepted by their family members.
