The attitudes of South Korean presidential candidates towards the peninsula issue have been attracting public attention. Park is positive in resuming the North-South Korea dialogues, easing bilateral relations and expanding economic exchanges between two sides. She also stressed that national security is higher than all and North Korea should bear responsibility for the incidents of "Cheonan" and artillery attack on the Yeonpyeong Island.

Lee Yeong-Joo, doctor of science of international politics and chief director of Chinese Political and Cultural Research Institute of Korea, said that the North-South Korea dialogues proposed by Park must be started based on the S. Korea-U.S. alliance under certain conditions. Lee Tai Hwan also thought that the premise that Park suggested resuming dialogues and establishing mutual trust with North Korea is that North Korea must show its sincerity and make efforts on changes.

Lee Yeong-Joo believes that Park will not only maintain the ROK-U.S. alliance but also further develop it, meanwhile remain friendly relations with the neighbors including China and Russia.

With regard to the future of the China-ROK relations, Lee Tai Hwan said that Park thinks the development of relations with China and the United States are equally important. She suggested promoting the further development of China-ROK relations on the basis of maintaining ROK-U.S. relations.

Lee Yeong-Joo also said that Park will deepen China-ROK strategic partnership after taking office, so the bilateral relations of the two countries will be further deepened.
